oo! watchout! the walls are pointy!
well this weekend brought about some interesting events, and a broken camera. friday night i chilled at the crib, joe came by to say what's up. saturday i was up and downtown to meet peaches for a ride. i think we did about 42 or so. it was definately a good ride. took mable to the beach for a bit after that. went to the oar house for lunch, they made me a to-go bushwhacker. nice. napped on the couch for a bit. shea's mom called me up and asked if i wanted to come over because she was cooking some food. naturally i did. yesterday was sticker making day and i set up my futuristic sticker making lab and, well got some stickers made. i also got a ton of stuff ready to go out in the mail.

trick spoon, concave side reversed
ok, so sugar shea has been in south carolina since last friday morning for work. before she left we had a conversation about the plethora of classic 'easyrider' magazines her father had handed over for research on his motorcycle paint job. last night i found myself somewhat bored so i started flipping through some of them. let me tell you what, there is a large amount of incredibly beautiful motorcycles in those pages and an equally large amount of highly comical people and outfits. it began to make me think about my fashion issue i had the other morning. oh the possibilities.
on that note, i'm sure if i put all of the pictures up here that i found highly amusing and some old biker dude or his biker son recognized a picture of themselves they would probably hunt me down and beat me to a pulp or kill me for making fun of some clothes they wore once, and even possibly still might wear today. i'll be the first to say i would deserve it too.
i don't know if that is enough of a deterrence for me. what's that old saying? oh yeah, you gotta be tough to be dumb.
here are two very substandard previews of what is to come in the following few days of bachelorhood.

take those shoes off this instant
i was up at fourthirty this morning. i was out of the house by five. i was standing under the street lamp stretching and talking to shea on the phone when i saw peaches round the corner just before fivethirty. i said my i love you's to shea, hung up, and then brian and i were off.
once rolling we discussed my fashion inadequacies amongst other things. apparently my life as an ellite road cyclist will be short lived, if it starts at all, if i continue to show up in flannel shirts and "baggy mountain bike shorts." this is something i will have to ponder for a while.
we rode east on bayfront and up seventeenth and up into east hill. we stayed in east hill almost the entire time just riding the rolling hills. a little bit of effort was made to try to keep a conversation going, i was just trying to keep up for the most part. i would go in depth and try to recall the exact route we took, but i know that it would be a waste of time and i would probably just confuse myself, so i will just describe it the most basic way i know how: our ride took us up some hills and then back down some hills. we made a couple left turns and then we made some right turns. eventually we ended up in north hill where brian peeled off and went home and then i rode the last three miles back to my house.
after that i took mable for a walk.
i think it was about 22 miles or so, not counting the dog walk. which put me back at my house before sixthirty this morning.
not a bad start, now if i could just get my fashion squared away....

a panoramic view of disease ridden business men
this weekend went by, that's for sure. highlights starting at friday afternoon: babysat, got attacked by a yellow lab, went to the bayou, saved a kitten, got sleated on during a bike ride, worked on a motorcycle, a dog ate rat poison, grilled chicken and steaks, allegedly clogged a toilet, and now i am lucky enough to be at work waiting to go to a job site that we were supposedly leaving for an hour ago.
happy easter!

nature is a teacher
the other afternoon i made it home from work a little early, which is usually the case because i try to show up at least an hour and a half early every day. i kicked off my shoes and sat on the couch with the front door open and a slight breeze blowing through the screen door.
it was nice. the birds were singing.
all of a sudden outside i see this blur dart from the left side of my field of vision to the right. then a small puff of dust from our drive way. it was almost at this exact point in time when my neighbor was pulling into her drive way. our drive ways are right next to each other.
she never exits her vehicle. she is watching events unfold, just as i soon will.
i get up from my comfy spot on the couch to observe life on the exterior. lyler has caught something. i tell him to leave it alone, although quietly because i know it is a waste of the minimal effort that i am making.
my neighbor notices me standing inside watching and begins to wave her arms and make motions of disgust. i smile and nod.
lyler has noticed me at the door and decides to bring his gift to me in person, so to speak. he has not finished his job at this point. he lies down directly in front of the door with an air of incomplete satisfaction. i try to open the door to let him in, but he tries to bring his present with him. i close the screen door so no one can come in.
as lyler is distracted by me and the screen door someone is trying to limp away, trying to get to safer ground. not so fast mister. in my mind i can hear lyler say these words.
i sit back down on the couch to think about what is happening in my front yard.
soaring high, the epitome of freedom, the wings of everything that man wants, snatched from the sky and mauled by a cat with no front claws making the best effort possible to show that he appreciates the guy who dolls out his food and gives him a warm place in the winter and cool water in the summer. a sacrifice has been made.
after an evening the body is gone and there is no evidence of these events. a passing stray cat or dog probably ate the remains, so all was not wasted. quite contrary really.
i lied about no evidence left. i was a witness, as was my neighbor in all of her arm swinging and mouth covering from safe inside her car. those disgusting neighbors with their mean old cat. i think that is probably what she was thinking, maybe she even voiced that opinion to her husband.
memories. memories and photos go hand in hand. it is left to the viewer to determine the relevancy of both.
rest now, little bird. your life was not wasted. food to some, appreciation to others, maybe an example of where not to go to your winged brothers and sisters, a lesson taught for all to learn from.
such is life.
