no one would set a trap way out here in the woods

just ordered the blue slip-ons. i feel like a hipster. not really. i needed a new pair of slip-ons because my vans are pretty beat. and these were less expensive than vans. so that's good.
i need to start leaving my credit card at home from now on.

and all of the rest of the family see color

a while back i was surfing around the rapha website and caught a glimpse of their prologue caps. it looked pretty grand, what with the hip all over print mixed with the classic stylings of a cycling cap. a good mixture i thought. compaired to the rest of their products this one seemed to be the most attainable to my budget. i ordered one, and according to their website it would be here in time for the prologue of this years tour. perfect. true to rapha's word it showed up the day before the prologue. i opened up the packaging and was imediately impressed. the cap looked just like it did in the pictures on their site. excellent.

fast forward twenty-one days. this cap is crap. it started out good but quickly dissolved into cotton diarrhea on my head. all of the elasticity in the back of the cap that is used to make it fit on your head is now gone, and the bill sounds like a wet diaper when you touch it. i have had various cycling caps that go down the tubes relatively quickly, so i am ok with the cap not lasting very long. the thing i don't understand is that rapha is supposed to be a high end, good quality company. was it because i ordered one of their "cheaper" products?plus the hat, including shipping, was something like thirty bucks. for that much dough i could have ordered a third shaun deller hat and been much more satisfied.

and this brings me to my next issue: shaun deller cycling caps. i own two. a three panel cotton and an eight panel wool. and aside from their various stains and odors these hats fit like the day i pulled them from my mail box, only better. i was first a little sketched out by ordering something from some random guy accross the country by first sending my check and then hoping he sends me a cap. but the turn around was quick and i got my cap in what seemed to be record time. i was elated to say the least! this was well over a year ago and this first cycling cap is still going strong and is quite comfortable.

anyway, the only reason i started this post was because yesterday morning when i was getting ready for my ride i pulled out my new rapha cap and put it on my head and it was aweful, so i found my trusty deller head topper and was stoked. who knew a cap could do its job so well? it almost makes me want to order another one right now. but it'll have to wait since i just ordered some nitto bullhorns and i already have two of his caps anyway.

through the hoop

i never thought that a day that started with a nice thirtyfive mile ride before work could turn into such a steaming pile of crap before eleven o'clock. if i was me i would tell myself to buck up, little camper. but i'm not, oh wait, i am. nevermind that last sentence.

i forgot

i totally forgot why i logged in today, but now i remember: jacob from the bike shop is planning an alleycat for pensacola. the first ever that i am aware of. go to http://myspace.com/pensacolaalleycat to find out more as things progress. i am considering racing, but i might just hang out and drink beer, or possibly do both. if you're a nerd with a myspace account check it out and leave a comment or something as i cannot because i am a nerd with a blogger account.

damn nerds.

out there, ominously moving toward its destiny

finally skinny dog has gotten a name. his new name is sawyer. sawyer & mable sitting in a tree...and so on and so forth. they have been going nuts lately.

i recently pulled my aurora out and got it back on the road. i forget how much fun that bike is to ride.

this is a boring, short post since i need to get back to work. i apologize, but not really.

is it because i'm vegan?

no one ever plans to sleep out in the gutter

finally got the pictures of my jamis conversion up. nothing special except loads of fun. it is geared real, real low too, 32x20. the suspension seatpost may have to go though, but for right now i am just using what i have around the house. the only thing i have paid for are the pedals, everything else i had and/or begged for, traded, or pilfered to get.

hey, i'm trying to pass the potatoes

this was "random dog" when he first showed up. after "random dog" he became "skinny dog." now he is fattening up and is starting to have a lot more energy and be a lot more active. plus he looks much better now. i think my friend todd in south carolina might want to give him a nice home in the mountains, but if not i guess he'll be ours forever. to me he looks like a "henery" but shea doesn't like that name for some reason. we've been calling him "peter" also because he always has a little dog boner going on. kind of funny, but kind of gross.
in other news, rode some this weekend and locked myself out of the house. shea was nice enough to drive back from work to let me in, then she go into a fender bender on her way back to work. when it rains it pours i guess. we are getting rid of our pingpong table so yesterday i tried to do some cleaning and moving. we will have so much more room now.

wait! wait! cancel that....

getting yourself into some kind of trouble

remember, my forearms are just as useless as yours

happy friday the thirteenth. i should go rent some horror flicks tonight.

i got the first comment to a post so far this year. wow. the first one in over seven months. i guess it is a testament to how popular my blog really is. i think it was a shirt i saw at digital gravel (possibly somewhere else though) that read "i'm only popular on the internet".

i want a shirt that says "i'm not even popular on the internet". that'd be funny. anyway, francesca, thanks for reading.

i put my doorprize package for the fixed gear gallery's symposium in the mail today. i hope it all makes it there safely and it is stuff they can use. fingers crossed.

i think your feet may be uglier than mine

pensacola is not known for its legendary graffiti talent. pensacola is also not known for its overflowing artistic talent in any regard really. don't get me wrong, we do have some phenominal local artists, but they tend to make up just a small fraction of what you actually see in the galleries. the rest is usually some ceramic flamingo or a seashell painted with a sand dune or a pastel sponge painted t-shirt with puff paint shells and pelicans, etc.

anyway, i was on my way to work the other day when i saw this bit of public art and it made my day. simple, creative, and uplifting in its own right. it makes me want to go home and paint.

awesome!

who the hell are these people?

to understand the doorknob principle

this scrawny little guy followed us home from walking mable this morning. he is currently in the back yard with her. at least he was when we left this morning.
skin and bones. no collar or tags. infested with fleas. both he and mable will be getting showers and flea sprays when we get home this evening.
i have made a couple "found" flyers to put up in the neighborhood, but due to his condition i am not quite sure i want his owners to know his whereabouts. we'll see. maybe i will put them up tonight and then take them down on sunday or monday.
he appears to be full pit or a pit mix so i don't want him going to the shelter and will keep him if need be. not really thrilled on two dogs and a cat though. either way, a name is in order. it needs to go well with mable. so far he is just "random dog."
