new sketches

...well new images of old sketches i suppose. my job should be more interesting to keep me from doing things like this on the clock.

at the garden

so i stopped by the manna foodbank garden we have a plot in this morning on my bike ride to work and snapped some shots. the corn is getting tall, the eggplant looks like a purple turd, and the icebox watermelons are about big enough to throw at sissys on bikes. unfortunately something has started eating our peppers, well something other than us anyway.

..except for the forest.

we went camping this past saturday night. well, more like we stayed the night in the woods and drank a bunch of beer. went to sleep. woke up. had a few more. cleaned up our mess. packed up and went home. it was good time. we got to hear the creek run by all night long and some nice mellow rumblings of thunder to boot. not much rain though, only about thirty minutes worth.

gifts.

shea went to new orleans to see rancid. she brought me back some presents.
i can't wait to rock my new shirt. maybe on my next ride. the king cobra didn't last long, but it hit the spot. something about malt liquor is just so nice.

mable's first road trip

we went to oak mountain in birmingham and had a grand old time. mable did the full loop, which i've been told is around seventeen miles or so. i'm not sure about the accuracy of that figure, but who cares?

it was her first road trip of more than fortyfive minutes and at first she seemed excited, then very worried, then she started to calm down, but never got really comfortable. finally we arrived and then she was excited again because of all of the new smells and what-not. then the ride began.

i managed to get the crap kicked out of me by the ground on a couple occasions. nothing too bad, but enough to leave me sore, bruised, and swollen today.

it may have had something to do with my day starting at a quarter til three sunday morning then proceeding with a four hour ride in a car and then straight to the bikes. i think the next time it will have to be an overnight camping trip where we travel one day, get up and ride the next. i'll have to continue to work out an efficient system of traveling/sleeping/riding.

it was sunny with a few clouds when we started the ride and then progressively got cloudier until it started raining a bit. we were under enough tree cover for it not to matter much. eventually we made it back to the truck for a nap, sandwiches, and some ice cold pbr. then it started thundering and some dangerous looking storm clouds started gathering so we packed up and started our journey back to the home front.

straight away mable crashed in the back seat, no worries, no excitement, nothing. into the truck and then into doggy dream land, twitches and all.

it poured for part of our return trip which was ok because it washed the bikes off and then they got a nice air dry the rest of the way. it kept me from having to do it. there was also some sort of accident or back-up on the interstate which put us a little behind schedule, but not too bad.

toad dropped us off on our doorstep and sugar shea was in new orleans to see rancid so i had the house to myself, well mostly. the cats needed attention since they had been outside all day. mable went straight to bed after i filled her with some gourmet treats.

now i'm at work, not working. imagine that.

how we do it

so i finally decided to download some pictures from the camera. i know, this image is pure photographic genius!

taken on some weeknight while hanging out in the front room.

if you look closely you can see how concerned mable appears to be.

a fifth of july

yesterday was an odd fourth, but pretty good. got in a bike ride early in the morning. we had some gnarly waffle house for breakfast. i ate my weight in blackberry b-b-q ribs and corn on the cob and heineken. went home and watched the simpsons and some other television. went to visit my family. heard what sounded like the worst wreck in history but come to find it was a guy who took out a fire hydrant, electrical box, a curb, slid across four lanes of traffic and a median up into some of the landscaping at the front of my pops neighborhood. messed his explorer up pretty well and then the cops and everyone showed up. we promptly loaded up the pooch and left. went to the fireworks display and parked on the top deck of the parking garage and watched things explode. then we went home and went to bed. this morning mable didn't want to get out of her crate, she was tired and wanted to sleep in. i could have done the same thing, but i'm at work instead.
