all natural

earmarked for something

laughably unrealistic

friday i played hooky from work. i took care of some smalle things around the house in the morning and some time in the afternoon i took my new 1x1 out for the maiden voyage. it was a blast.

i went home and made some minore adjustments for saturdays ride.

saturday morning it was raining so i put off going to the woods until around eleven or so, when it looked like it was clearing up a bit. then about a quarter of the way into my loop it started a constant drizzle that would continue for the rest of the day. it was a little chilly and damp, but it was still a blast.

saturday night i got all of my things packed up and ready to head out to ft. pickens sunday morning. dj and tom were supposed to join me for the ride in the morning. i drank a bunch of water saturday to hydrate and i ate fairly well, i think.

sunday morning it was kind of gray and overcast. it was also a little windy and cool. i think when i left the house around 7:40 it said it was about 45 or 46. tom had called and cancelled sunday morning and dj never showed up at the time and place we were supposed to be meeting so i was flying solo.

no big deal. it was a cold, uneventful ride out to the beach. i stopped at the convenient store next to peg leg pete's and picked up two foster's oil cans and a cream cheese bear claw. after the beers were packed up and the claw consumed i headed for the fort. after reaching the area that the road is washed out i began my trek through the sand. you only have to walk about a mile before the road picks back up, and usually it is a pain. but since it had been raining somewhat frequently recently the sand was hard packed and easy to walk on. drink some water.

i pick back up on the road and cruise toward the fort entrance, but first i'll stop off at one of the disappearing gun turrits for one of my beers. i sit on the top and make some calls checking in and rubbing it in the face of everyone that it's january and i'm sitting on the beach, basking in the sun. it had warmed nicely and most of the clouds had burned off. i make the loop around the end of the fort and then back to another pair of big guns for my last foster's and then head back out toward the main beach.

there are considerable more people making the trek out to the fort now that the sun is up and it is warming up a tad. i'm happy to be leaving as the crowds show up.

an uneventful ride back over the bridges into pensacola where i stop at the welcome center at the base of the pensacola side of the three mile bridge for a gu packet and some honey roasted peanuts. then i'm on the bike for the remaining three miles to home.

stretch out. drink a mug or two of wine. drink some more water. eat some deer. do some laundry and watch a bit of television. fall asleep on the couch. not a bad forty some odd miles or so....

now i'm at work.

i'm thinking that, weather permitting, i might do that ride again next sunday.

read my mind

deliberately undermining

it feels like it has been ages since i updated my loyal readers. ages indeed. the annual shea-fest has been concluded and my liver is breathing a sigh of relief. i have been trying to get some things together for the first mailing of oh-eight, but it is taking some time to find everything and get it organized.

at night we have been hearing what sounds like the toxic avenger version of a feline meowing outside. it really is pitiful. we've looked but have not been successful in finding the beast, even though it sounds like it is right outside the bedroom window. so last night i put a little bit of cat food on the porch, even though governor pants gave me a look that said, "why must thou feed mine enemy?" and this morning there was not a scrap of food left. maybe it was toxicat, maybe it was another stray? who knows? do you know?

some good news came yesterday afternoon in the form of unexpected mail of my own. when i was in virginia in october i went shopping with my mom and aunt. i found some nice flannel shirts but none in my size. yesterday when i got home from work i found a package from my aunt with one of said shirts, in my size. unexpected, undeserving, greatly appreciated.

speaking of flannel shirts, sunday i aquired a huge pile of second hand flannels from shea's father. some old levi's and lee flannels from his youth. a lot fit me, some did not. i was, am, and will be stoked on my new flannel line up this year.

well, that is all the lumberjack news i have for now.

which are often printed nuggets of wisdom

today is shea's birthday, hooray! now her weeklong (or more) birthday festival will get underway.

but for me, i am at work today. but there is still hope since i'm not doing anything more than checking out my new favorite website. http://draw.ca which lead me to another website that i looked at and find truely amazing. http://www.markstoryphotography.com

check them both out if you have the time, or, like me, are bored at work.

battle for supremacy

ahh... updates.
let's see, tomorrow is shea's birthday. sunday i rode the fastest fifty-five miles i have ever ridden, it was on a wheelmen ride with peaches. the toilet and bathtub in our house have backed up and, hopefully, today they will be repaired. i have been busily working to get some good things made to mail out. i might have pictures soon, then again, i might not. i ordered a surly 1x1 frame since the jamis frame i converted a while back seems to have the structural integrity of a wet paper bag. i think that's about all for now.

mathematically impossible

the lone surfer guy person.
woke up bright and early this morning and joined peaches, john, and johnny for this mornings ride. it was wicked muggy and warm this morning. it feels more like april/may than january. speaking of, i need to get shea a birthday present. no flats, no mechanicals, just smooth sailing this morning. it was pretty nice. when i got home i leaned the bike up against the wall and heard the hiss of my rear tire going flat, but at least i was home. i hate flats. so today on my lunch break i went to the shop and purchased two new 700x23/25 specialized roubaix armadillo elite tires. i was hoping for something in white or grey but i did not feel like special ordering some tires. maybe i'll do that on the next go 'round. on road bikes i have good faith in the higher end tires from specialized, they make good stuff. however, their lower end/stock/oem tires aren't that great, in my opinion. and i don't think i'd ever run any of their tires on a fixed gear since the lamination constructions doesn't appear to hold up very well to general fixed gear misuse. anyway, enough about tires.

indicating that you are retarded

hopefully back into the swing of things for the new year. met up with the crew this morning for a ride, it was just moist enough to make everything slippery. peaches flatted about three times so we were behind schedule a bit. no big deal really. i wish i had brought my camera because the fog was looking pretty cool this morning. oh well.

i didn't take any pictures at the race this weekend either. i was too busy doing other things, like racing and drinking beer.

shea came out on sunday with darnella to show support and this morning while i was out riding she even made me lunch to take to work. i swear, that girl needs a raise. above and beyond the call of duty.

i think that is about all for now.

oh wait, go to one less car and order some stuff and get one of my spoke cards.

ok, now i'm done.

the best way to advance your career

23 degrees with a windchill making it feel more like 10 degrees, at least that is according to our local news weather team. it is times like these that make me feel a kinship with all the other humans who live places way colder than florida, which, i think, is a lot of people. of course, our real cold temps last only a couple days a year and most other places i think it lasts a little longer.

normally implies some flexibility

holy holiday hangover batman!

alas, two thousand and seven is finished. completed without much bodily harm or loss of blood. and now two thousand and eight is here. brought in with new scabs, moderate hangovers, and heavenly thoughts of bacon wrapped fried macaroni and cheese. hopefuly i will make it through yet another three hundred and sixty five days.

so, as they say in bangladesh: cheers to the new year and cheers to saturdays filled with a gallon of malt liquor.

amen my brothers and sisters, amen.
